DIET -District Institute of Education and Training was established in 1988 in India, as part of the National Policy on Education, 1986, to improve teacher training and education quality at the district level. DIETs are established to:

  • Provide teacher training and support
  • Improve education quality at the district level
  • Support educational initiatives and innovations.

DIET at Ranipet, Ranipet district ( previously Vellore district) was established in the year 1990 which presently serves Vellore, Ranipet and Tiruppatur districts.

About DIET

DIET Ranipet was established in 1999-2000, during the third phase of its development. The institution comprises five departments:Department of Pre-service Teacher Education which assists In-service Programs,Department of Teacher Professional Development,Department of Education Technology and Material Development,Department of Assessment and Evaluation and Department of Field Interaction and Action Research.

Objectives of DIET


To facilitate the Elementary Education, School Education, RMSA to make every school a resourceful learning organization where every child is welcome and his / her learning needs and emotional needs are met.
  • To implement Child Centric Curriculum and Syllabus for Standard I to XII.
  • To sensitize concerned authorities in the District on the Rights of Children to Free and Compulsory education.
  • To function as District Resource Center, extended training centers and District unit of SCERT.
  • To provide resource support to RMSA in designing training programme and providing training to District level trainers and teacher educators.
